EDISON, N.J. - Due to the impact that Superstorm Sandy had on the region earlier this week, the Loyola University Maryland men’s soccer team’s regular-season finale at Rider, previously scheduled for Friday, has been cancelled, as announced by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Thursday.

Since the four teams that qualified for the 2012 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship have already been determined - Iona, Loyola, Niagara and Siena - the games that were to be played this weekend were mostly so that the top-four teams could finalize their seeds for the league championship. The MAAC administrators agreed that team standings will be frozen for seeding purposes based on the results of all games played through Sunday, Oct. 28, leaving the Greyhounds (12-5-1, 7-1-0 MAAC) as the regular-season champions and the top-seed in the upcoming tournament.

The regular-season title marks the first for Loyola since 2008 and the 16th in the program’s 24 years in the league. It’s also the eighth title for head coach Mark Mettrick in just 13 years.

The top-seeded Greyhounds will face No. 4 seed Iona at Marist’s Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. The second game will pit No. 2 seed Siena versus No. 3 Niagara at 9 p.m. The championship game on Saturday at 8 p.m., will be telecast live on ESPN3.

Tickets to the tournament are available at maac.ticketleap.com.
