EDISON, N.J. - Loyola University Maryland junior goalkeeper Thurman Van Riper and freshman Larry Ndjock have been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s Men’s Soccer Co-Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league office Monday.

In a 2-0 week for the Greyhounds, Van Riper stopped all but one shot that he faced, a penalty kick at Iona. Of Van Riper's nine saves, six were in a 3-0 shutout win at Fairfield, marking Van Riper's sixth clean sheet of the year. It was also his league-best third shutouts in MAAC play. On Friday, against Iona, Van Riper turned back three shots as the Greyhounds handed the Gaels their first MAAC loss of the year.

Offensively, Ndjock led the way by scoring in both of Loyola's road games this past weekend. Ndjock recorded two goals in a span of three minutes at Iona to help Loyola hand the Gaels a 3-1 loss, their first MAAC loss of the season. He then tacked on another goal in a 3-0 win at Fairfield to finish the week with three goals. For the season, he leads Loyola, and is among the leaders in the MAAC, with 10 goals and 23 points.

This marks the second-straight week Van Riper has been tabbed the league’s top defensive player, while it is also the third time he has been honored this season. This also marks Ndjock’s third rookie of the week accolade.

The Greyhounds (10-5-1, 5-1-0 MAAC) will carry a five-game win streak into next weekend’s final regular-season home matches. Loyola will host Saint Peter’s Friday night at 7 p.m., before taking on Manhattan Sunday at 1 p.m. Sunday’s contest will be a part of Senior Day, where Loyola will honor five of its seniors – Hector Arellano, Kevin Curran, Gerwyn Jones, Zach Tweddell and Gary Weisbaum – before the start of the game.
