Game Data

• Loyola travels to Central New York for a pair of games at the 34th-Annual Mayor's Cup, hosted by Hartwick College. Both games will be play at the Hawks' Elmore Field in Oneonta, N.Y.
• The Greyhounds take on the Syracuse Orange on Friday, September 11, at 5 p.m., followed by a Sunday, September 13, 2:30 p.m. match versus the host Hawks.
• Founded in 1976, the Mayor's Cup has been one of college soccer's top tournaments. Played in the city that boasts the National Soccer Hall of Fame, it has been intertwined local schools Hartwick since its inception.

Head Coach Homecoming

• Loyola Head Coach Mark Mettrick will make a homecoming of sorts this weekend when he returns to the campus of his college alma mater, Hartwick. Mettrick graduated from the school in 1988 after a decorated career. He earned All-America First Team honors on two occasions and was a Dean's List student while earning his Bachelor of Science in physics.

Series Stats

• Loyola and Syracuse will meet for the sixth time with the Orange holding a 3-2 advantage in the first five meetings. The teams last played in 2006 when Syracuse was a 3-2 victor.
• The Greyhounds and Hawks have played twice before, with Loyola leading 1-0-1 after a 2-0 win last season in the Black & Decker Soccer Classic.

Wittman Works Clean Sheet

• Kyle Wittman posted his first collegiate clean sheet against Quinnipiac, posting a 110-minute shutout in double overtime. The junior goalkeeper made three saves against the Bobcats.
• Wittman played almost 70 minutes of shutout soccer against The Mount and gave up a lone goal versus Villanova.

Glenn's Goals

• After coming off the bench in the 13th minute against Mount St. Mary's, Glenn Leitch did not take long to get involved in the game. He scored twice, in the 22nd and 36th minutes, to put Loyola ahead, 3-0.
• His two goals were a career high and extended his career total to 10.

Elite Feet

• With a goal and two assists against The Mount, Jamie Darvill moved into a tie for 10th all-time in assists (20) and a tie for 18th in points (74) at Loyola.
• Darvill is now one of only nine players in Loyola history to score 20 or more goals and record 20 or more assists.

More Than Just Saves

• In addition to posting six saves in just under 70 minutes of action versus The Mount, Kyle Wittman recorded a statistical rarity for a goalkeeper. He was credited with an assist after his long punt cleared the defense, and Jamie Darvill flicked the ball to Glenn Leitch for an assist.
• The last assist by a Loyola goalkeeper came on October 12, 2007, when Milos Kocic's goal kick was finished for a goal by a Phil Bannister header.

First Timers

• Several players have contributed to Loyola for the first time in the team's first three contests. Six freshmen and a transfer have all seen action.
• Of the freshmen, Kevin Curran and Zach Tweddell are starting on defense, while Hector Arellano, Greg DiNardo, Matt Tyrie and Zach Kane all made their collegiate debuts against The Mount.
• Alex Garcev, a junior who transferred after a pair of seasons at USC-Upstate, has played in all three games, starting the last two in the midfield.

Hermann Trophy Hopes

• Three Loyola players were named to the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy Watch List. Senior back Tennant McVea, senior forward Jamie Darvill and junior forward Phil Bannister were recognized as three of the top 38 players in Division I Men's Soccer.
• Loyola was one of two schools, joining 2008 NCAA Quarterfinalist Creighton, with three players on the list.

CLASS-Y Candidate

• Senior back Tennant McVea was named a candidate for the 2009 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. The Award, which is present at the NCAA College Cup, recognizes student-athletes who combine four attributes: classroom, community, character and competition. The list of 30 candidates will be trimmed to 10 midway through the season, and national coaches, fans and media will have the opportunity to vote for the winner.
• McVea was an All-America First Team honoree by the NSCAA/adidas last season and is a two-time MAAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Looking Back

• Jamie Darvill scored a goal and had two assists, both on Glenn Leitch goals, as Loyola defeated Mount St. Mary's, 3-2, last Friday.
• The Greyhounds then saw their first road action of the season, playing Quinnipiac to a 0-0 double-overtime draw. Kyle Wittman made three saves and recorded his first shutout as a collegian.
• Goal-Scoring Pair
• Jamie Darvill and Phil Bannister formed the best goal-scoring tandem in NCAA Division I Men's Soccer last season. Darvill tallied 14 goals, and Bannister scored 13, and their combined total of 27 was the most by two players on the same team in 2008.

In The Pros

• Following the 2008 season, All-American goalkeeper Milos Kocic was selected in by the D.C. United in the MLS SuperDraft. Kocic has played in several games for United, including a friendly against Real Madrid.
• Zach Thornton `94 was named to the MLS All-Star game for the sixth time. The Chivas USA goalkeeper is one of just two MLS keepers to win 100 games in his career.
• Mike Burke continued his 12-year profession career with the Richmond Kickers this season, helping his side win the USL-2 Championship. He finished second in the league in assists.

• After the Mayor's Cup, Loyola returns to Diane Geppi-Aikens Field for a 2 p.m. match on Saturday, September 19, against Towson.
• The Greyhounds will celebrate Alumni Day on the 19th, and it is MSYSA Day, as well. Maryland State Youth Soccer Association players who receive a flier in the mail from Loyola men's soccer can bring the flier for a $2.50 admission and stick around for a postgame autograph session.
