Watson, Vosvick Earn Patriot League Player Of The Week Accolades
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -
Loyola University Maryland junior A. Mickey Watson and freshman Chase Vosvick have picked up men’s soccer weekly awards from the Patriot League, as announced by the League office Monday.
Watson was named the Corvias Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for the first time this season and the second time throughout his career, while Vosvick earned both Corvias Patriot League Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Week accolades for the first time.
Watson anchored and organized a defensive unit that posted its second-straight shutout at Colonial Athletic Association preseason favorite William & Mary Friday night. Watson played all 90 minutes on the back line of the scoreless draw, winning multiple tackles and headers in the box, all without committing a foul, despite the sloppy and slippery field conditions.
Vosvick also contributed to the shutout effort, earning a personal-best seven saves in the match, including stopping a series of three in a span of four minutes. His first save came on CAA Preseason Player of the Year Antonio Bustamante’s shot in the 24th minute. He then turned back a pair from Ryder Bell, a Preseason All-CAA selection, in the 25th and 27th minutes, and denied a shot by Julian Ngoh, who was coming off a game where he scored the game-winning goal for the Tribe against NC State.
Watson and Vosvick become the fourth and fifth Greyhounds to earn weekly awards from the Patriot League this year, as sophomore Josh Fawole (offensive), Gabriel Carlsson (midfield) and Sam Brown (rookie) earned honors last week.
Loyola will return to action tonight as it hosts Atlantic Coast Conference rival Pittsburgh at Ridley Athletic Complex at 7 p.m.
