OCEAN CITY, N.J. - Former Loyola University Maryland men’s soccer player Kevin Curran ‘13 helped the Ocean City Nor’easters complete their most successful season in the history of the franchise this year. The Nor'easters claimed the United Soccer League’s Premier Development League Eastern Conference Title and played in the National PDL Championships in Texas for the first time since the club joined the league in 2003.

The Nor’easters (15-3-1 overall and 13-2-1 in the PDL) defeated the Carolina Dynamo in a penalty shootout in the conference semifinals before knocking off the Ottawa Fury, 3-1, to earn the Eastern Conference title. Ocean City then advanced to Austin, Texas, where it faced the championship hosts and Southern Conference Champions, Austin Aztex, in the semifinals. The Nor'easters saw their season come to a close on Austin with a 1-0 loss to the eventual national champions.

“We had a great team last year but lost (1-0 to Ottawa) in the Sweet 16,” Ocean City defender Kevin Curran, 22, told the Press of Atlantic City. “I feel like this is a long time coming, and I’m happy that these guys get to share it with me.”

Curran, an Ocean City team captain, was a two-time team captain for Loyola. A 2013 graduate, Curran was named to the MAAC All-Tournament Team as a senior, after helping the Greyhounds advance to the championship game for a league-record 18th time. Curran played in all 72 games throughout his four-year career at Loyola, starting 71. He scored his lone goal as a junior, but led the MAAC in assists as a senior, recording seven. He concluded his career with 17 points and 15 assists.
