Fletcher, Van Riper Named To Loyola's Green & Grey Society
May 1, 2013
The Green and Grey Society consists of seven men and seven women selected from the senior class who demonstrate academic excellence and committed service to Loyola. In the spirit of Jesuit ideals, the Society serves as advisors to the University executives by identifying and communicating issues of significance present in our community. As engaged members of the community, the Society empowers students across the University to live the philosophy of `magis' or doing more for others.
Fletcher has been a two-year starter for the men's lacrosse team and is one of the top close defenders in the nation. He was a Preseason First Team All-American and has lived up to that billing on the field this season as a top candidate for ECAC Lacrosse League Defensive Player of the Year and more postseason honors.
Van Riper started all 20 games in goal for the Loyola men's soccer team and helped the Greyhounds win the 2012 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season title and reach the MAAC Championship Game. He played to a 0.86 goals against average while recording eight clean sheets and saving 83-percent of shots on goal.
Both Fletcher and Van Riper have excelled in the classroom as accounting majors in Loyola's Sellinger School of Business. Van Riper was named to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District II First Team this year, and Fletcher was recently named to a business honor society.
University executives and administrators select the Green and Grey Society members through a competitive nomination process in recognition of their contributions to the Loyola community. The selected members uphold a vision to foster a more unified campus through service and holistic representation of diverse objectives, opinions and concerns.
The members serve as liaisons on behalf of student body to University leaders including, but not limited to, the Board of Directors, President, Vice President, Student Development Directors and alumni of the University.
This year, a pair of student-athletes, women's soccer's Nichole Schiro and women's basketball's Alyssa Sutherland, participated in the Green and Grey Society.
