BALTIMORE - Sophomore Connor Thompson scored the game-winning goal in the second overtime period to lift the Loyola University Maryland men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory against Saint Peter's Friday night at Ridley Athletic Complex. With the win, the Greyhounds move into sole possession of first place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference standings and clinch a spot in the upcoming four-team MAAC Tournament.

Saint Peter's (4-11-0, 2-4-0 MAAC) found the back of the net first when Andrew Kelly snuck a corner from Marcel Maddee' into the corner of the goal from about six yards out in the 34th minute.

Loyola (11-5-1, 6-1-0) found its equalizer within the next six minutes though when freshman Larry Ndjock was taken down in the box. Ndjock converted his first collegiate penalty kick in the 40th minute to get the Greyhounds on the board and then tacked on a second goal in the 49th minute to give Loyola a 2-1 advantage.

Senior Kevin Curran started the play, sending a ball into the box where classmate Gary Weisbaum redirected a header to Ndjock. The Peacocks' goalkeeper, Carlos Suarez, was able to get a foot on Ndjock's shot, but the ball found the top corner of the goal anyway to give Ndjock his 12th goal of the season, the most of any individual Greyhounds since 2008.

The Greyhounds' defense held strong through the second half, but the Peacocks were able to break through in the 75th minute when Jack Pounce played a ball to Lennard Ann at midfield. Ann then sent a through ball to a streaking Maddee', who scored the equalizer that forced overtime.

Loyola had an opportunity to secure the victory in the first overtime period, but Thompson's header off a free kick bounced off the cross bar.

Thompson capitalized on an opportunity in the 108th minute though, wrapping up the victory for the Greyhounds. Senior Zach Tweddell sent a free kick toward the goal, but the Peacocks headed it out of the box where Thompson one timed a ball through traffic and into the back of the net.

The game winner marks the second game-winning goal for Thompson this year, third of his career.

In goal for Loyola, junior Thurman Van Riper made six saves, while Suarez stopped one shot for Saint Peter's.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Sunday when it hosts Manhattan at 1 p.m. Loyola will honor its six seniors that will be playing in their final home game - Hector Arellano, Kevin Curran, Greg DiNardo, Gerwyn Jones, Zach Tweddell and Gary Weisbaum (Baltimore, Md.) - prior to the start of the contest.
