Ndjock Leads Loyola To Fourth-Straight Win With 3-1 Victory At Iona
Oct. 19, 2012
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Freshman Larry Ndjock scored two goals in a three-minute span to lead the Loyola University Maryland men's soccer team to a 3-1 win over Iona at Mazzella Field Friday afternoon.
With the win, the Greyhounds claim their fourth-straight victory and improve to 9-5-1 this season and 4-1-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play, while the Gaels drop their first conference match and move to 5-9-0 overall, 3-1-0 in the league.
Dooley then returned the favor on a breakaway in the second half, chipping a cross to freshman Larry Ndjock in a give-and-go situation. Iona goalkeeper Borja Barbero attempted to knock Dooley's cross over the cross ball, but Ndjock headed it into the back of the net before Barbero could get to it, giving the Greyhounds a 2-0 advantage.
The Greyhounds then created a two-on-one situation on a counter attack in the 62nd minute. Sophomore Connor Thompson and Ndjock beat the Gaels' defense before Ndjock capped off the run with his second goal of the game.
In the 71st minute, the Greyhounds were called for a foul in the box, setting the Gaels up for a penalty kick, which Alvaro Torrecilla placed into the bottom right corner of the goal for Iona's lone score.
Defensively, junior Thurman Van Riper stopped three shots.
Loyola will head to Fairfield next, taking on the defending MAAC Champions Sunday at 1 p.m.
