NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. - Rene De Zorzi converted a penalty kick for Niagara University with 7:17 left in regulation to lift the host Purple Eagles to a 2-1 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory on Friday night against Loyola University Maryland.

The Greyhounds (5-5-1 overall, 0-1-0 MAAC) were whistled for a handball in the box, leading to De Zorzi's penalty kick. He struck it into the lower right corner to extend Niagara's unbeaten season.

Niagara (7-0-3, 1-0-0) tied the game in the 56th minute, just 44 seconds after Loyola opened up a 1-0 lead.

Larry Ndjock won the ball out of a scrum in the box and finished his seventh goal of the season to post a 1-0 advantage for the Greyhounds at 54:51.

Nick Garcia, however, fed Ken Cooper who hit a bending ball form the top left of the box, tying the match at 55:35.

The Purple Eagles had a modest 14-10 advantage in shots, 4-3 in shots on goal.

Loyola continues its Western New York trip on Sunday at Canisius College, a 2-1 overtime loser tonight against Rider University.
