Sept. 13, 2009

Final Stats

ONEONTA, N.Y. - Hartwick scored three times in the first 35 minutes, and the Hawks topped the visiting Loyola men's soccer team, 3-0, in the final game of the 34th-Annual Mayor's Cup.

Nick Roydhouse took a shot from the top of the box and caromed it off the crossbar for the first goal just 6:23 into the game, giving Hartwick what would prove to be the game-winning goal.

Sam Wright then redirected a Roydhouse cross with a 20th-minute header, scoring the second marker for the Hawks (2-2-1).

Evan Doan added the third after creating a Loyola turnover and scoring on a breakaway.

"I give a lot of credit to Hartwick for putting pressure on us early," Loyola Head Coach Mark Mettrick said. "They played a very good game and won it in the first half."

Jeremy Vuolo made three saves in goal for Hartwick to earn the shutout. Kyle Wittman made three saves for Loyola (2-2-1).

Loyola, which defeated Syracuse, 1-0, in the first game of the Mayor's Cup on Saturday evening, was held to a season-low seven shots. The Hawks attempted 19.

Eddie Dines and Wittman were named to the All-Tournament team for Loyola.

The Greyhounds return to Diane Geppi-Aikens Field on Saturday, September 19, when they host Towson at 2 p.m. The game is Alumni Day and Maryland State Youth Soccer Day. Check out this week for more information.
