Late Goal By Ndjock Gives Loyola 1-0 Win At Quinnipiac
Sept. 11, 2013
HAMDEN, Conn. - Sophomore Larry Ndjock scored in the 83rd minute to lift the Loyola University Maryland men’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Quinnipiac at QU Soccer Field Wednesday Night.
"This was a very good win for us away from home at a very difficult place to play," Mettrick said. "The game was a hard-fought match in tough conditions (90-degree heat) and I am very pleased that our team gutted it out.
"It was also encouraging to see that we played a lot of different players who contributed to the win."
Senior Diego McQuestion passed ahead to Ndjock, who used his speed to get by his defenders before sending a low shot at the far post for his fifth goal of the season. The goal marked the third-straight game in which he has scored, while it also moved the Greyhounds to 3-0-1 on the season.
The Bobcats (0-2-2) had an opportunity in the closing minutes of the game to force overtime, but Justin Kody’s shot went just wide of the goal.
Throughout the first half, the Greyhounds had opportunities from both Ndjock and sophomore Dominic Marshall. Early in the game, junior Connor Thompson found Marshall, who had a shot from eight yards out saved. Ndjock also barely missed connecting on a ball from junior Joey Wilkins and Thompson.
In goal, senior Thurman Van Riper played all 90 minutes and stopped three shots to post his first shutout of the season. Borja Angoitia made seven saves for Quinnipiac.
Loyola will return to Ridley Athletic Complex for a four-game homestand beginning with Campbell on Saturday, September 14. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
