Matt Dwyer is in his second season as assistant men's soccer coach at Loyola College. Dwyer, who brings a wealth of coaching knowledge from his involvement in the youth soccer coaching ranks and valuable professional playing experience to the program, helped Loyola to its finest season in over five years in 2007. With his help, the Greyhounds won 19 games, claimed the MAAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships and advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA College Cup.
Dwyer, who holds several coaching licenses, including an NSCAA Premier Diploma, a USSF "A" license and an English FA coaching badge, began his club coaching in Louisiana where he coached local club teams to six state championships over seven years. He moved to Baltimore in 2001 and coached in the Baltimore Bays Soccer Club organization. Prior to his arrival at Loyola, Dwyer held the position of Technical Director with the Bays for five years.
Dwyer also coached the U-16 Bays team for four years and is still involved as a youth coach in the United Soccer League and Olympic Development Program. In addition, he also serves as a national team scout for youth players in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
A native of Foulridge, Lancashire in the United Kingdom, Dwyer is a product of Burnley Football Club's youth program, where he made several professional appearances before beginning his coaching career.
Dwyer graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in sports studies with a minor in psychology from Towson University in 2006. He currently resides in Canton with his wife Terri and their daughter, Madelyn.
