Loyola MLAX Alumnus Stan Ross Named Head Coach Of MLL's Launch
Nov. 21, 2013
BOSTON - Loyola University Maryland men's lacrosse alumnus Stan Ross '95 was named the head coach of the newly formed Florida Launch, a Major League Lacrosse team that will begin play in 2014.
Ross was most recently an assistant coach for the Denver Outlaws as they completed the MLL's first-ever undefeated regular-season with a 14-0 record.
The Launch, which will play its home games in Palm Beach County, will be comprised of the foundation of the Hamilton Nationals roster, according to the MLL.
"It is an honor to be named the first head coach in Florida Launch history," Ross said in a release issued by the league. "I am thankful to the organization and the MLL for allowing me this opportunity to coach a professional team in my home state. Lacrosse is growing rapidly in Florida, and the addition of a local professional team will be a huge catalyst for expansion of our sport in the area. I feel the Florida Launch will be welcomed with open arms by the Florida lacrosse community."
Prior to joining the Outlaws' staff, Ross was an assistant coach at the U.S. Naval Academy from 2007-2011 where he coordinated both the offensive and defensive units for current United States National Team coach Richie Meade. He was the head coach at Butler University from 2004-2006, and he spent seven years as an assistant at Towson University (1998-2004).
He also had coaching stints at Princeton University (1997) and the University of Denver (1996); Ross started his coaching career at Loyola as an undergraduate assistant coach for the Greyhounds in 1995.
In his three years on the field for Loyola, Ross played in 38 games as a close defender, picked up 99 ground balls, had a goal and an assist. He was a three-sport standout at nearby Boys' Latin School before coming to the Evergreen campus.
