Sawyer Earns All-Star Bid In First Major League Lacrosse Season
July 13, 2013
CHARLOTTE - Recent Loyola University Maryland graduate Mike Sawyer was named to the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) All-Star team in his first professional season with the Charlotte Hounds.
Sawyer will participate in the annual event today, starting at 7 p.m. from Charlotte's American Legion Stadium. The game will air live on ESPN2.
A four-time MLL Rookie of the Week already this season for the Hounds, Sawyer was his hometown team's first-round pick in January's Collegiate Entry Draft. The native of Waxhaw, N.C., finished his Loyola career with 128 goals and 154 points, good for second and eighth, respectively, in Loyola's Division I career history.
Sawyer tallied a team-high 36 goals in his senior season and finished his collegiate career with six-straight multi-goal game, including a stretch of four in a row with three or more.
He made a quick splash in the MLL, earning Cascade Rookie of the Week honors after his first game when he scored a goal and assisted on two.
The three-time USILA All-American at Loyola has scored nine goals and assisted on four through seven MLL games this year. He recorded his first professional hat trick on June 29 at Denver with a trio of goals against the league-leading Outlaws.
