MacDonnell Picked By Bayhawks In MLL Draft
June 6, 2010
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Loyola University Maryland attacker Cooper MacDonnell was selected by the Chesapeake Bayhawks in the 2010 Major League Lacrosse Entry Draft on Sunday night.
The 2010 ECAC Offensive Player of the Year was selected with the 44th overall pick in the eighth round of the draft. MacDonnell is the third Loyola player in the last two seasons to be selected in the draft.
MacDonnell finished the 2010 season with 22 goals and six assists despite missing three full games, and part of another, with a shoulder injury.
The Connecticut native started the year with a bang, scoring a career-high six goals against Navy on February 20. His final goal came with nine seconds left in overtime, lifting the Greyhounds to an 8-7 win in Navy-Marine Corps Stadium, the venue MacDonnell will now call home with the Bayhawks.
He then scored two goals against Quinnipiac on February 27 before suffering a shoulder injury late in the first half.
MacDonnell missed the next two games before returning on March 13 when the Greyhounds opened the Ridley Athletic Complex on March 13 against Duke. He sat out the March 20 game against Air Force before coming back to score five goals in two games, wins over Towson and Ohio State.
At Fairfield on April 10, MacDonnell scored two goals and two assists, and he then tallied three goals and an assist on April 17 versus Georgetown.
Following the season, MacDonnell earned USILA All-America Honorable Mention and played in the Lax World/USILA North-South All-Star Game.
MacDonnell scored at least one point in the last 28 games he played in, dating back to April 19, 2008. During that span, MacDonnell scored 56 goals and had 16 assists for 72 points.
Over his four seasons at Loyola, MacDonnell helped the Greyhounds advance to the NCAA Championships three times (2007, 2008 and 2010). He scored 77 career goals and assisted on 19 others for 96 points. He also finished with 82 ground balls.
