Spencer, Sherlock Earn USILA All-America Honors

PHILADELPHIA - Loyola University Maryland men’s lacrosse freshman Pat Spencer was named an Second Team All-American by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) on Saturday morning, and his junior teammate Brian Sherlock earned Honorable Mention All-America honors for the second year in a row.

Spencer has had the finest season by a freshman nationally this year, and enters the NCAA Semifinal game against the University of North Carolina ranked second in the nation in assists per game (2.76) and first in points (4.88). He opened the year with two goals and two assists against the University of Virginia, and he has continued each game since then, tallying at least two points in all 17 to date.

Through the NCAA Quarterfinals game, Spencer has recorded 36 goals, 47 assists and 83 points. He was the first player to win the Patriot League Offensive Player and Rookie of the Year Award outright in the same year. The Davidsonville, Maryland, native has 12 multi-goal and 11 multi-assist games.

Last week, Spencer moved into a tie for third-place on the Loyola single-season scoring list, and he is tops amongst players in the school’s Division I history. His 83 points match the 1979 total of Gary Hanely, the alumnus who also holds the top two marks (86, 1980; 89; 1981). Spencer is also second in school single-season history in assists, six behind the 2014 total of Justin Ward.

Sherlock was also an All-Patriot League First Team honoree, marking the third year in a row he has earned that distinction. The All-America honors are the second in his tenure as a midfielder at Loyola. This season, he ranks third on the team in 22 goals, 13 assists and 35 points.



He scored a point in 15 of 17 games this season and had 11 multi-point affairs. The Nissequogue, New York, resident has 70 goals, 42 assists and 112 points in three seasons with the Greyhounds.

Loyola will take on the Tar Heels in the NCAA Semifinals at 12 noon on Saturday, May 28, at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. The game will air live on ESPN2.
