Huggins, Sherlock Earn Academic All-Patriot League Recognition

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Foster Huggins and Brian Sherlock were named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team on Wednesday, two days after the duo garnered All-Patriot League First Team recognition.

The pair was two of 12 student-athletes from around the conference voted to the list by personnel from each school.

Huggins moved into a starting role on the Loyola defense this season and quickly became he Greyhounds’ top cover defender. He was routinely given the role of defending the opponent’s ball-carrier or top scorer, and he has helped Loyola rank 12th (to-date) in scoring defense as the Greyhounds are yielding 8.15 goals per game.

In addition to his cover skills, Huggins also leads Loyola in caused turnovers with 17, and he also has 17 groundballs. A sophomore, Huggins has a 3.54 grade-point average as a business major. He is also a member of the Sellinger Scholars Program in the University’s Sellinger School of Business.

Sherlock received the Academic All-Patriot League honors for the second year in a row after pulling All-Patriot League First Team laurels for the third-consecutive season. This year, he was a unanimous choice to First Team, and he enters the Patriot League Championships tied for second on the team in assists (10) and third in both goals (18) and points (28).

The junior has also been a key member of Loyola’s wing play and has 16 groundballs thus far in 2016. Sherlock has a 3.542 grade-point average as a communications major, and he will graduate from Loyola this year before returning for his final year of eligibility in 2017.

Loyola opens play in the Patriot League Championships on Friday, April 29, as the No. 2 seed. It will play third-seeded Bucknell University in the Semifinals at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland. CBS Sports Network will televise the game live.
