BALTIMORE - Junior Cooper MacDonnell was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, just days after scoring a career-best six points in Loyola's win over Georgetown, the conference office announced. Also today, the Greyhounds were moved to No. 15 in both the USILA Coaches Poll and Nike/Inside Lacrosse Rankings.

MacDonnell, the conference's top goal-scorer, matched his career-best with five goals in a thrilling 8-7 win over the Hoyas on Saturday in Washington, D.C. After Loyola fell behind 3-2, the attackman led a furious rally by scoring four goals during a 6-1 spurt which spanned the third and the fourth periods.

The Hoyas would close to within one at 7-6 with 3:50 left, but MacDonnell found the net just 18 seconds later for a critical insurance goal, his fifth of the day. The Darien, Conn., native also added an assist for a six-point afternoon.

He has now scored a league-high 27 goals on the season, while averaging 3.5 goals-a-game over Loyola's last four. In nine of Loyola's last 10 games, he has scored at least two goals.

This is the second time in three weeks that MacDonnell has won the award. He was also recognized after scoring a then-career best five goals in a near-upset over No. 2 Syracuse.

UMass goalkeeper Doc Schneider was named Defensive Player of the Week and Matthew Mackrides of Penn State earned Rookie of the Week laurels.

Loyola, at 7-4 overall and 4-1 in the league, currently stands second only to Massachusetts in the league standings. They will host two straight league games, beginning next Saturday against Fairfield. Face-off is slated for 3 o'clock p.m.
