Spencer, Lindley Earn Patriot League Weekly Honors
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland’s Pat Spencer and Kevin Lindley were named the Patriot League Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week on Monday after posting big numbers for the Greyhounds in a pair of victories last week.
Spencer totaled 16 points in wins over Towson University and College of the Holy Cross with games seven goals and nine assists, while Lindley finished the week with nine goals and an assist.
Overall, the duo helped Loyola outscore its opponents 25-13.
Spencer opened the week with a seven-point game in the Greyhounds’ 12-8 win over Towson. He assisted on and scored a goal in the first quarter, helping Loyola jump out to a 3-1 lead, and he then tallied three goals and two more assists during the second half.
On Sunday, Spencer finished one point off his career high, scoring three times while assisting on six; four of his assists went to Lindley against the Crusaders.
During the win, Spencer took over possession of second in all-time points (199) and assists (122) at Loyola in just his 39th career game. He now trails Gary Hanley (1978-81) in both categories; Hanley had 160 assists and 311 points.
Lindley scored three times against Towson to set a new career-high, but it was a mark that would stand for only four days. He broke out for eight goals and an assist Sunday against Holy Cross.
His eight goals set a Patriot League freshman record and are tied for second-most in Loyola and Patriot League single-game history. His goal total is the highest by a Loyola player since Gavin Prout scored eight on April 28, 2001 at Hobart College. It is just one shy of the school record of nine scored by John Carroll on May 3, 1986 versus Washington & Lee University.
Spencer leads Loyola in points (27) and assists (15) this season, while Lindley tops the Greyhounds with 13 goals.
The award is the fourth of Spencer’s career and Lindley’s first. Loyola has won six weekly awards this season. Foster Huggins has picked up a pair of Defensive Player of the Week honors, while Brian Begley has one; Jacob Stover also has earned a Goalkeeper of the Week nod.
Loyola, which rose to No. 7 in the Maverick/Inside Lacrosse Media poll, will face third-ranked Duke University on Saturday, March 10, at 3 p.m. at Ridley Athletic Complex.
