BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland short-stick defensive midfielder Brian Begley was named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Team of the Week on Tuesday after his outstanding performance Saturday in the Greyhounds' win over Johns Hopkins University.

Begley scored a career-high four points, matching his career-bests in both goals and assists with two of each. He also was a key contributor in Loyola's defensive performance that held the Blue Jays to just one second half goal in the 12-5 decision.

The senior from Morristown, New Jersey posted five ground balls and caused a turnover on the defense end and did not allow a one-versus-one goal against a player he was defending during the game.

Begley stayed on after a defensive shift to score the first of his goals with 8:11 left in the third quarter, pushing Loyola up by four, 8-4. He then assisted on a John Duffy tally at 2:01 in the frame. Begley scored the last Loyola goal of the day, another unassisted score, with 8:26 to go in the final period.

In his career, Begley now has 11 goals and five assists to go with 88 ground balls.

Loyola is back in action on Saturday, February 24, when it hosts Lafayette College at 12 noon at Ridley Athletic Complex to open Patriot League play.
