Dennis Named Patriot League Rookie Of The Week After Debut
Feb. 10, 2014
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - A two-goal performance in his first collegiate game earned Loyola University Maryland freshman midfielder Romar Dennis (Huntingtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken H.S.) Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors on Monday afternoon, the League office announced.
Dennis tallied goals in the first and fourth quarters of the Greyhounds' 14-13 overtime loss last Thursday night at seventh-ranked University of Virginia.
In the first quarter, Dennis dodged from the midfield `X' and whipped an overhand shot past the Cavaliers' defender for his first collegiate goal less than 10 minutes into the game.
He was then part of Loyola's 9-0 fourth quarter run that saw them overcome a 12-4 deficit to take a 13-12 lead with 17.2 seconds left. Dennis again worked from the midfield, but this time he cut left-to-right midway through his dodge, and he finished a high-to-high shot for a goal with 2:30 left on the clock, tying the score at 12-12.
Dennis' two goals came on his only two shots of the game, and he was one of five Loyola players to score twice. Four of those players logged their first career multi-goal games in the contest at Virginia.
The Greyhounds are back in action on Saturday, February 15, with a 1 o'clock game at Penn State University in State College, Pa.
