CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland men’s lacrosse was tabbed as the preseason favorite in the Patriot League, and Pat Spencer earned recognition as the conference’s Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, on Tuesday.

The Greyhounds open the 2018 season on February 10 at the University of Virginia and begin defense of their third-straight Patriot League title February 24 when they host Lafayette College. Loyola opens its home schedule with a highly-anticipated matchup against Johns Hopkins University on Saturday, February 17.

Loyola received 126 points in the preseason poll and 14 of a possible 16 first-place votes. The U.S. Military Academy was tabbed second with 115 points, followed by the U.S. Naval Academy (92) and Bucknell University (78).

Boston University came in right behind the Bison with 77 points, while Lehigh University (65), Colgate University (45), College of the Holy Cross (34) and Lafayette (16) rounded out the poll.

Spencer, who was named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Player of the Year Watch List last week, was named the Patriot League Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. The junior attacker has earned Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year honors in each of his first two seasons at Loyola while racking up record-setting numbers.

A First-Team USILA All-American last year, Spencer set a Loyola and Patriot League record with 55 assists while also scoring 28 goals. He has two of the top-five single-season point totals in school history after logging 83 last year; as a freshman in 2016, Spencer finished with 89 points to match the 1981 school record set by Gary Hanley.

Inside Lacrosse has also released its Preseason Patriot League poll and all-conference team from the Face-Off Yearbook. The Greyhounds again received top bill in the poll, and Spencer was joined by defender Foster Huggins and goalkeeper Jacob Stover on the projected all-conference team.
