Charley Toomey is now in the ninth overall season and seventh consecutive season as an assistant men's lacrosse coach at Loyola College. Toomey, who began his coaching career at Evergreen in 1991, returned to his alma mater in August of 1998.

Toomey now works as the defensive coordinator and is responsible for developing Loyola's goalie talent. A goalie himself, Toomey's contributions to the unit and to the program, along with his coaching style and work ethic, have earned him respect among lacrosse coaches across the country. Lacrosse Magazine featured Toomey in an article this past summer, naming him one of the nation's top assistants.

Despite his professional lacrosse experience with the Baltimore Thunder and Boston Blazers in the early 1990's, Toomey's passion as always been in coaching.

In his first stint with Loyola, Toomey served as an assistant from 1990-92, working primarily as a goalie coach. From there, he moved on to the Naval Academy Prep School, serving as the head coach during the 1993 and 1994 seasons. Toomey stayed in Annapolis with his next stop, moving over to the college ranks as an assistant at the U.S. Naval Academy from 1994-96. At Navy, he worked with the goalies and defensive midfielders. He then accepted the head coaching position at Severn School in 1996 and coached there for three successful seasons.

As a student-athlete at Loyola from 1987-90, Toomey was a two-time All-America selection at goalie, earning honorable mention honors in 1989 and third-team accolades in 1990. He owns two of Loyola's top-six single-game save performances in the cage, and he also ranks among the Greyhounds' all-time saves leaders. His 22 saves against Rutgers in the 1990 NCAA tournament also tie him for the top postseason mark in school history. Toomey, who finished his collegiate career with an amazing 25-5 overall record, was the last Loyola goalkeeper to start an NCAA Championship Game, starting the 1990 NCAA Final against Syracuse.

In his second time around with the Greyhounds, Toomey focuses his attention on Loyola's defensive unit and the goalies. He also works with the Greyhound man-down defense and has helped recruit some of the best young talent in the country.

Toomey currently resides in Annapolis with his wife, Sara. The couple has three young daughters, Emma (6), Sophie (3) and Lyla (2).
