Golfers Tee Off At The Health Plan Mountaineer Invitational Monday
The Loyola University Maryland golf team will compete in The Health Plan Mountaineer Invitational at the Pete Dye Golf Club Monday and Tuesday.
“We are looking forward to building on the momentum from our solid finish at NC State earlier this week,” head coach Chris Baloga said. “The course that we will be playing is a top-100 ranked course in the country and I have heard nothing but great things about the facility. The forecast is calling for rain, but I think our guys are excited about the opportunity to test our mental toughness, as we have had pretty optimal conditions so far this year.”
The Pete Dye Golf Club, rated one of Golf Digest’s 100 Greatest Courses and No. 11 on Golf Week’s Top 100 Modern Course Rankings, will play approximately 7.308 yards as a par 72. The Greyhounds will play 36 holes on Monday and return to play another 18 on Tuesday. Monday will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., while tee times for the final round will start at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Loyola, coming off a fourth-place finish at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, will send seniors Ethan Wall, Brendan Peel and Bennett Wisner, sophomore Preston Ball and freshman Evan Brown to compete in the 54-hole event.
The event will feature 15 other schools, including the host team West Virginia, Akron, Bowling Green, Davidson, Eastern Kentucky, James Madison, Marshall, Ohio, Robert Morris, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Towson, Utah, Winthrop and Youngstown State.
Following the tournament, Loyola will head to Greensboro, North Carolina, for the UNC/Grandover Collegiate.
