Men's Golf Head Coach Chris Baloga Wins Maryland Mid-Am

IJAMSVILLE, Md. - Loyola University Maryland men's golf Head Coach Chris Baloga shot a 3-under 69 on Friday to win the 24th Maryland Mid-Amateur Championship. Baloga finished 9-under for the tournament, winning the event by a commanding five stroke advantage.
Baloga bogeyed his first hole of the day but recovered with birdies on the fifth and sixth holes. Sitting at one-under after the front nine, Baloga birdied two holes on the back nine en route to a 3-under 69 and the championship. Baloga was the only golfer in the tournament to shoot under 70 on both rounds of play, finishing with an aggregate 135.
An opening round 66 gave Baloga a three-stroke lead after day one.
Baloga was one of four competitors to register an eagle at the tournament. Baloga led the Mid-Am in total birdies (11), par-3 performance (averaging 2.62 strokes per par-3), most par breakers (33.3 percent) and par-5 performance (an average of 4.25 strokes).
The head coach will fly to University Place, Wash., Friday night for the start of the U.S. Amateur Championship on Monday, August 23. Baloga tees off at 10:25 a.m. EDT on Monday and 3:40 p.m. on Tuesday.
