April 3, 2014
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Loyola University Maryland golf team earned more first-place votes than any other Patriot League team but was selected to finish second by one point in the 2014 Patriot League Preseason Poll, as voted on by the men’s golf head coaches and sports information directors and announced by the League office Thursday.
Army edged the Greyhounds out of first place by collecting 89 points to go with seven first-place votes, as opposed to Loyola’s 88 points and eight first-place votes.
Navy checked in third in the voting, collecting 71 points, while Lehigh was fourth and picked up the final first-place vote to go with its 70 points. Bucknell was fifth (45 points) and Lafayette (39), Colgate (31) and Holy Cross (15) rounded out 6-8 in the poll.
Lehigh won the 2013 Patriot League Championship by seven strokes, while Navy returns individual champion Chris House.
This year’s conference championship will be held at Army’s West Point Golf Course on Saturday and Sunday April 26-27.
