Loyola Golf Plays In Jacksonville Invitational To Start Spring Season
Feb. 12, 2009
Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola golf team picks up the spring season with tournament play in the Jacksonville Invitational in Ponte Vedra, Fla. The two-day event tees off Monday at the Pete Dye Valley Course and will field a great variety of teams.
"This is a new event for us and will give us a barometer at the start of the spring season," Head Coach Tom Beidleman said. "We will be playing different types of teams at this tournament."
Loyola will go with a familiar starting five, with senior Michael Mulieri taking the number one spot. He shot a final-round 71 in the Santa Clara Invitational back in October, and was just one of six players to finish at even-par of better on that final day at the Silver Creek Country Club. Mulieri was also named the MAAC Golfer of the Month for October.
Sophomore Alex Redfearn will jump in the number two spot. He fired a 78, 75 and 75 at the Santa Clara Invitational and helped the Greyhounds finish in sixth place.
The number three spot will be filled with freshman Jay Mulieri. His 224 total (72, 77, 75) at the last event came in as Loyola's second lowest score, right behind older brother Michael's 217 score in California.
The following teams will also be competing in the Jacksonville Invitational: Kentucky, Lamar, Florida Atlantic, Stetson, Jacksonville State, Jacksonville and South Carolina Upstate.
