Wears Joins Loyola Golf Class Of 2017
Jan. 24, 2013
BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland head golf coach Chris Baloga has announced the addition of Will Wears to the Greyhounds’ Class of 2017. Wears will join Connor Flach and Matt Oshrine at Loyola in the fall.
“Will probably has the best golf swing that I’ve seen in my three years of recruiting,” Baloga said. “He’s easily the longest hitter I’ve seen as he consistently drives the ball well over 300 yards. I expect him to be one of our main contributors that will help us contend for Patriot League titles throughout his four years as a Greyhound.”
A native of Latrobe, Pa., Wears was named the Western PA Junior Player of the Year in 2011. He earned three top-five finishes at FCWT competitions and won the Westmoreland County High School championship in 2012.
In 2009, Wears led his high school team to the Pennsylvania state tournament title, helping them set the team scoring record along the way. He followed that up in 2011 by finishing tied for third at the Pennsylvania Golf Association State Junior Championship.
Also a varsity basketball starter at Greater Latrobe High School, the 6-foot-5 Wears is averaging 10.3 points per game and 12.7 rebounds per game this year.
Wears is the grandson of four-time Master’s champion and legendary PGA Tour professional golfer Arnold Palmer. His cousin, Sam Saunders, is also professional golfer, currently on the Web.com Tour.
