Greyhounds Successfully Defend Title At John MacDonald Golf Classic
Oct. 26, 2004
Atlantic City, N.J. - The Loyola men's golf team successfully defended their team title at the John MacDonald Classic in Atlantic City, N.J. by firing a two-day team total of 604 at Galloway National Golf Club. The Greyhounds place three individuals in the field's Top-10 as they take their first team championship of the season.
"Although we didn't play our best today, the guys hung tough and we got ourselves a team championship," says Loyola Head Coach Tom Beidleman. "Galloway is a tough golf course and we can be happy with this title."
Sophomore Will Shriver led the Loyola charge with a 36-hole score of 149. Shriver shot a 76 in Tuesday's round, the same score as freshman Matt Bassler, who placed 11th overall with his 153. Shriver finished third overall.
Freshman Chris Derby, who was tied atop the leaderboard on Monday, scored a 79 on Tuesday and finished with a 151, good enough for sole possession of sixth place. Senior T.J. Shuart was one stroke back at 152 and tied for seventh while Tommy Villani scored a 160 in his two rounds.
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe Iona posted a 303 on Tuesday and finished in second place. Seton Hall (622), Temple (626) and Connecticut (626) rounded out the Top-5. Uconn's Jason Parajeckas took medallist honors for the Huskies.
