Freshman Matt Bassler scored a one-over par 73 in his second round at the Joe Agee Intercollegiate and leads Loyola after Day One at the Royal New Kent Golf Club in Providence Forge, Va. The Greyhounds post a team score of 607 on Monday and occupy 11th place heading into Tuesday's final round.
Bassler, with a 76 in his morning round, finished the day with a 36-hole score of 149. He is tied for 24th among all individuals while sophomores Will Shriver and Tommy Villani are three strokes back with a two-round tally of 152.
Shriver finished with solid rounds of 75 and 77 while Villani posted the best Loyola score of the day in his afternoon round. After an 81 in his first round, Villani bounced back with a one-under par 71 to close out strong for the `Hounds.
Senior T.J. Shuart recorded a 73 in his first round and ended the day with a 157 after an 84 in the afternoon. Freshman Nick Brassill rounded out the Greyhound scoring with a two-round total of 166.
Rutgers University leads the 17-team field with a score of 577 while host William & Mary is tied for second with a 580. The `Hounds close out the tournament on Tuesday with 18 holes on the par 72, 6,967-yard course.
