SOUTH KENT, CT - The Loyola University Maryland golf team finished runner-up to University of Connecticut at the Hartford Hawk Invitational at the Bull’s Bridge Golf Course on Tuesday, while senior Jay Mulieri finished tied for second after completing a playoff round with three others for top honors. Mulieri carded a 3-under 213 for the tournament, while the Greyhounds finished with a 12-over 876.

UConn won the title with a 4-over 868, while Loyola finished one stroke ahead of third-place finisher St. John’s. The Red Storm finished with a score of 877.

Following the completion of the second round of play, Loyola held a five-stroke lead over all competitors with a 1-under 575. Mulieri led the Greyhounds through the round, shooting a team-low 4-under 68. Senior Ryan McCarthy was one stroke behind his classmate at 69, while freshman Bart George shot a 1-over 73. Senior Patrick McCormick carded a 2-over 74 and freshman Jack Whelan finished with a 77 for the round.

For the tournament, Mulieri finished tied for second overall with a 3-under 213, while George and McCormick finished tied for 19th with a 7-over 223. Whelan finished tied for 27th with a 225, while McCarthy was tied for 36th with a 227.

UConn’s Jeb Buchanan won the playoff round to take home top honors, while Mulieri finished tied for second with Rhode Island’s Branden Chicorka and Sacred Heart’s Josh Salah.

Loyola will return to action Sunday and Monday, Oct. 2-3, heading to Miromar Lakes, Fla., for the Miromar Lakes Collegiate.
