Golfers Finish Strong At Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational

BREMERTON, Wash. - The Loyola University Maryland golf team shaved 12 strokes off its second-round score to finish the highly competitive Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational at the Gold Mountain Golf Course in 14th place with a team score of 16-over 932.
Freshman Keegan Boone had the most impressive round for the Greyhounds, leading the team with a 1-over 73 to move up five spots on the leaderboard. Boone improved his score from the first round by 12 strokes to finish with round scores of 85, 81 and 73. Overall, he was tied for 65th with a 23-over 239.
Junior Brendan Lemp led Loyola throughout the tournament, finishing tied for 34th overall at 11-over 227 with round scores of 75, 77 and 75, while freshman Bart George was tied for 54th at 17-over 233 (74-81-78).
Freshman Jimmy Dengler finished with an aggregate score of 20-over 236 (81-77-78), tying four other competitors for 65th place. Senior Jonathon Ross rounded out the Greyhounds competing, earning a 33-over 249 (82-89-78).
As a team, the Greyhounds carded a 16-over 304 through the third round to finish the final 18 holes ahead of Washington State (18-over 306) and Seattle (19-over 307), while they were also just one stroke shy of Pepperdine (15-over 303) and three-strokes shy of Pacific (13-over 912).
For the tournament, the hosts, No. 5 Washington, claimed the top-three individual finishers, en route to the team title. The Huskies, led by Cheng-Tsung Pan, finished with a team score of 2-under 862. No. 10 Texas A&M came in second with a 7-over 971, while Saint Mary’s (Calif.), finished third at 17-over 881, one-stroke ahead of UC Davis. No. 17 San Diego State took fifth (24-over 888), while No. 14 Oregon and Washington State finished tied for sixth at 35-over 899.
Individually, Trevor Simsby and Chris Williams – the top-ranked amateur in the world – trailed their teammate by four strokes, finishing tied for second at 1-under 215. Texas A&M’s Ben Crancer and Greg Yates finished tied for fourth with an even 216.
Loyola will take next weekend off before heading to Fort Myers, Fla., on Sunday, Sept. 30 and Monday, Oct. 1 for the Miromar Lakes Invitational.
