Greyhounds Complete Tough First Day At Kikkor Golf Husky Invite

BREMERTON, Wash. - The Loyola University Maryland golf team finished a tough first day of competition at the University of Washington's competitive Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational at Gold Mountain Golf Complex. Junior Brendan Lemp leads the Greyhounds after two rounds, carding an 8-over to sit tied for 33rd overall.
Sophomore Bart George is second for Loyola, ranking tied for 51st with an 11-over 155, while freshman Jimmy Dengler is tied for 59th at 14-over 158. Freshman Keegan Boone is tied for 70th overall with a 22-over 166 and senior Jon Ross is 73rd with a 27-over 171 through the two rounds.
Washington's Chris Williams, the No. 1 ranked Amateur in the world, trails the leader - and Husky teammate - Cheng-Tsung Pan by five stokes. Pan leads all competitors with a two-round score of 9-under 135, while Williams is at 4-under 140. Ben Crancer, from Texas A&M, and Sang Lee, from Washington State, are tied for third overall, with each finishing the day at 2-under 142. San Diego State's Tom Berry, Oregon's Rak Cho and Texas A&M's Greg Yates round out the top five, each with a 1-under 143.
Washington, receiving one first-place vote in the GCAA Coaches Poll and ranking fifth nationally, leads all teams with an aggregate score of 3-under 573. No. 10 Texas A&M trails the Huskies by six strokes (3-over 579) heading into the final round, while Saint Mary's (Calif.) - receiving votes in the national poll - is third with an 11-over 587.
Other nationally ranked teams in the field include No. 17 San Diego State, fifth overall with a 15-over 591, and No. 14 Oregon, seventh overall at 24-over 600.
The Greyhounds, currently 15th overall with a team score of 628, trail Seattle by one stroke and Gonzaga by five strokes.
Gold Mountain's Olympic Course is a par 72, 7,124-yard track that has played host to previous events such as the U.S. Junior Amateur Championships (2011), the NCAA Men's West regional Golf Championships (2010, 2008), the Ping/Golf Week Invitational (2009) and the 81st U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship (2006).
Loyola will return to the course Tuesday morning for its third and final round.
