Men's Golf Opens 2009 Season With Third Place Finish At The Manor Intercollegiate

Sept. 16, 2009

Farmville, Va. - The Greyhounds couldn't manage a run at the Manor Intercollegiate win Tuesday but still opened up 2009 with a strong showing finishing in third place out of 13 teams. Loyola turned in a 54-hole score of 903 after shooting a 304 (296-303-304) in Tuesday's final round at Manor Resort Golf Club in Farmville, Va.

The top three teams remained in the same order after Tuesday's final round, with Gardner-Webb taking the title (876, 290-291-295) and Longwood University, the host school, finishing in front of the Greyhounds (885, 291-294-300).

Individually, Alex Redfearn grabbed his first top-10 finish of the season and the second of his Greyhound career. A closing-round 77 helped Redfearn finish at 6-over 222 (70-75-77) in a tie for eighth place. The finish is a new career-high for the junior. His previous high was a T10 at last spring's Detroit Titans Invitational.

Jay Mulieri went 4-over on the day to finish the event at 10-over (226). The 2008-2009 MAAC Rookie of the Year carded 10 birdies over three rounds, the second most of the tournament. Mulieri fired rounds of 73-77-76, tied for 17th.

Loyola's lowest round of the day came from Patrick McCormack, who's even-par 72 pulled him up nine spots into a tie for 20th. McCormack finished at 11-over (227, 78-77-72).

Keith Hall and Ryan McCarthy both struggled Tuesday shooting 81 and 79. Hall's opening rounds of 75 and 74 still managed to keep him in the top-25, as he finished tied for 24th (14-over, 230).

McCarthy finished with 22-over 238 and tied for 44th, in Virginia, going 80-79-79.

Greyhound golf will be back in action this weekend when they travel to the Midwest for the John Dallio Invitational at Ruffled Feathers Golf Club, in Lemont, Ill.
