Will Shriver Wins Colgate Invitational
Sept. 7, 2003
BALTIMORE, MD - Freshman Will Shriver took medallist honors at the Colgate Invitational with a two-round score of 143 and Loyola took second as a team with a score of 595 on the weekend. Shriver shot rounds of 70 and 73 to finish one-under par in his first collegiate tournament.
The Greyhounds placed nine stokes back of champion Binghamton, but placed three golfers in the field's Top-21. T.J. Shuart scored a 74 and 76 to finish with a 150, the same score and place as teammate Tommy Villani, who shot rounds of 74 and 76 as well.
"It feels pretty good to have a drop score of 76 in Round Two," says Loyola golf coach Tom Beidleman. " I believe that Will [Shriver] is the first player since Elkridge's own Joe Franz to win his first-ever collegiate tournament and that's quite an accomplishment,"
Joe Franz won the Georgetown Invitational in his first collegiate start. Shriver and the Greyhounds will be in action again next weekend at Bucknell.
