Sunriver, Ore. - Senior Jeff O'Brien fired a 74 on Day One of the NCAA Golf Regionals as the Greyhounds opened the postseason with a team round of 315. Loyola will look to move up in the field of 27 with 18 more holes at the Crosswater Club in Sunriver, Oregon on Friday afternoon.

O'Brien was solid in his first round, posting a one-over par score of 37 after the first nine holes. He maintained his one-over status with a bogey and a birdie, but shot a five on the par-4 number eight hole and finished the day two-over.

Freshman Will Shriver, who scored a 77, birdied his first hole of the day. Like O'Brien, he finished with two birdies, posting a 37 on the front nine. Senior T.J. Shuart was four-over par halfway through his round. He came back with a birdie on number three, but bogeyed his last hole of the day, the par-4 number nine, and finished at 79.

Scott Zielinski and David Atkinson each posted rounds of 85 for the Greyhounds. Zielinski recovered nicely after a triple-bogey on his first hole of the day. He shot par for the next five holes and ended the day 13-over par. Atkinson was one-under par through four holes before registering his 86.

"The course was very accessible today," says Loyola Head Coach Tom Beidleman. "We had great weather conditions and a good tee time, unfortunately we could not take advantage. Hopefully we'll put it together tomorrow and pass a few teams in the standings."

The Greyhounds, currently out of the field's Top-20, resume competition at the 2004 NCAA West Regional on Friday and conclude competition on Saturday with the final 18 holes of play. The Top-10 team advance to the NCAA Championship Tournament held at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Va.
