Golfers Top Nationally Ranked Teams In Final Round Of NCAA Regional

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Sophomore Bart George and freshman Keegan Boone carded their best scores of the NCAA Regional on Saturday, and senior Jon Ross and sophomore Brian McCormick tied theirs, as the Loyola University Maryland golf team combined for the eighth-best score of the day, topping nationally ranked squads through the final round at the Golden Eagle Country Club.
The Greyhounds shot a 3-over 291 through day to finish with a better final-round score than No. 42 NC State (4-over 292), No. 43 Oregon (5-over 294) and No. 31 Wake Forest (10-over 298), in addition to Iowa (6-over 294) and San Diego (8-over 296). Loyola trailed No. 19 North Florida's third-round top score by 10 strokes (7-under 281), but was within two of No. 30 Oklahoma (1-over 298). No. 6 Washington finished the day with a 6-under 292, while No. 14 Florida State was at 5-under 293 and No. 7 Georgia Tech was at 3-under 285.
George led the Greyhounds with a three-round total of 1-over 217, shooting a 73, 73 and 71, respectively, to finish in a three-way tie for 32nd. Ross was second for Loyola, shooting an even 72 again today, finishing the three days in a tie for 42nd with a total of 4-over 220 (76-72-72).
Freshman Keegan Boone continued to improve his score throughout the three days and finished tied for 60th overall. Boone finished today with a 1-over 73 to earn a three-round score of 9-over 225 (77-75-73).
Sophomore Brian McCormick was tied for 72nd in his first NCAA appearance, carding round scores of 75, 80 and 75, respectively, to finish at 14-over 230.
Freshman Jimmy Dengler rounded out the Greyhounds competing, finishing 75th with a 23-over 239 (75-81-81).
Washington’s Cheng-Tsung Pan shot a 5-under 67 through each of the three rounds to top the leaderboard with a 15-under 201. He was followed by North Florida’s MJ Maguire, Florida State’s Chase Seiffert and Richmond’s Daniel Walker. All three competitors finished at 12-under 204.
North Florida took the team title with a 34-under 830 and will advance to the final round of the NCAA Championships. The Ospreys will be joined by Washington (31-under 833), Florida State (28-under 836), Georgia Tech (15-under 849) and Oklahoma (10-under 854) at the national championships in Atlanta, Ga.
Loyola, the 2013 MAAC Champions, finished its sixth-consecutive NCAA appearance in 13th place with an aggregate score of 28-over 892.
