Orlando, Fla. - Senior T.J. Shuart shot a one-under par 71 to lead Loyola to its third straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) championship at Disney's Magnolia Course on Sunday afternoon. The Greyhounds, who finished the day with a team score of 294, win the 2005 title by six strokes and advance to their third straight NCAA Tournament.

Shuart, the defending MAAC champion, posted round of 70-75-71 to finish tied for second overall with a 216. Senior David Atkinson, who scored a 74 on Sunday, tied Shuart for second place with his three-round total of 216.

"Our seniors played great," says Loyola Head Coach Tom Beidleman. "The win was a total team effort, but I'm very proud of our two seniors who have now won this tournament for the third year in a row."

Loyola becomes only the third school to ever win three straight conference crowns, winning the men's golf team title for the ninth time in program history. The Magnolia Course, which Loyola set ablaze with its 72-hole score of 877, is also the site of Loyola's 2003 MAAC Championship which it won by a record 29 strokes.

Freshman Chris Derby scored a 73 in his final round at the 6,861-yard course to finish 15th among all individuals. Classmate Matt Bassler placed seventh, shooting a 76 on Sunday to score a 222 over the past three days in Orlando.

Sophomore Will Shriver followed Saturday's 73 with a 78 on Sunday and completed the tournament with a 229. Siena's Bryan Bigley took home medalist honors with his 211.

"Winning three straight MAAC titles is quite an accomplishment," says Biedleman. "This was one of our goals at the beginning of the season and we won't take if for granted."

With the win, the Greyhounds advance to their third consecutive NCAA Regional. Loyola, which has gone West each of the past two seasons, hosts the 2005 NCAA Men's Golf Championships at Caves Valley Golf Club the first week of June.
