Annapolis, Md. -
David Atkinson shot a team-best 75 on Day Two of the Navy Spring Invitational as the Greyhounds rallied from eight place to finish as the runner-up on Sunday afternoon at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club in Annapolis, Md.
Loyola capped the day with a team score of 307 and ended the tournament with a two-day score of 609, six strokes back of champion Johnson and Wales. Jeff O'Brien led the Loyola charge with a fifth-place finish, scoring rounds of 72 and 77 to post a 36-hole score of 149.
"Considering the conditions, I think we played very well," says Loyola Head Coach Tom Beidleman. "We got off to a great start and we used a total team effort to come back."
The Greyhounds rallied with T.J. Shuart firing a 153 while both Will Shriver and Atkinson scored a 154. Scott Zielinski finished with a 161 as Loyola leapfrogged Towson, Methodist, Navy, Columbia, Binghamton, Bucknell and Villanova with its Day Two push.
Loyola will resume competition next Monday-Tuesday, April 12-13 when it travels to Arizona for the Cowboy Classic. That tournament will take place at the Talking Stick Golf Club in Scottsdale.
