Mulieri Wins Fireline Towson Invitational

TOWSON - Senior Jay Mulieri shot a 3-under 69 Sunday in the final round of the Fireline Towson Invitational to claim top honors with a 7-under 209 for the three-day tournament, while the Loyola University Maryland golf team improved another four spots on the final day to finish tied for seventh overall at 24-over 888.
Mulieri sat 14th following the first round before moving into second after shooting a 4-under 68 yesterday. The individual victory marks the first for Mulieri this year.
The Greyhounds also got a top-20- finish from senior Patrick McCormick, who shot a 1-under 71 through the final round to finish tied for 19th overall at 5-over 221.
Third for the Greyhounds was sophomore Brendan Lemp who shot a 1-over 73 to finish at 13-over 229 for the tournament, while senior Ryan McCarthy and freshman Bart George tied for 80th at 16-over 232. McCarthy shot a 76 through the final round, while George – competing unattached – shot an 80.
Sophomore Cameron Liebert rounded out the Greyhounds competiting, finishing tied for 85th overall. He shot a 75 his final trip through the course, finishing at 17-over 233.
Northern Colorado and Seton Hall tied for the team title, with each team shooting a 7-over 871. Penn State and Navy tied for third at 15-over 879.
Individually, Mulieri won the title with a two-stroke lead over runner-up Steven Kupcho (Northern Colorado), who shot a 5-under 211. Anthony DeGol was third at 4-under 212.
Loyola will be back in action on Saturday, April 14 when it heads to Raleigh, N.C., for the NC State Spring Open.
