Men's Golf Places 14th At William & Mary
March 22, 2005
Williamsburg, Va. - Sophomore Will Shriver bounced back from a less-than impressive Day One and shot a 77 at Kingsmill on Monday afternoon. Shriver's score, however, led the Greyhounds on Day Two and with a team total of 320, Loyola finished 14th at this year's Invitational.
"Golf course conditions were very difficult," says Loyola Head Coach Tom Beidleman. "While not an excuse, we didn't handle that adversity very well and we have improve upon that moving forward."
Freshman Chris Derby, who led the Greyhounds with a 76 on Sunday, posted a 78 on Monday to finish the 36-hole tournament with a 154. Senior T.J. Shuart completed the tournament with a 156 while Shriver's 77 gave him a two-day total of 163.
"Anytime you play an event like this with such a strong field, bad breaks are bound to happen," adds Beidleman. "Hopefully our young guys can use this weekend as a valuable learning experience."
William & Mary won the tournament with a 306 on Monday and a two-day total of 602. Richmond finished second, losing the tiebreaker and Maryland placed third with a 605.
