Redfearn, McCormick Lead Golf To 12th Place After Day One
March 21, 2011
Williamsburg, Pa. - Senior Alex Redfearn and junior Patrick McCormick are part of a group tied for seventh-place overall as their 71s led Loyola to a solo 12th-place finish Monday after the first round of the C&F Bank Intercollegiate being contested at the Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va. Play continues Tuesday for the Greyhounds, who are scheduled for an 8:00 a.m. tee off for the final round.
James Madison shot their way to a six-stroke lead over North Carolina-Greensboro with a seven-under par 281. The Greyhounds are 17 back of the leader, but their team total of 298 is five shots behind the tie for four-place currently being held by host William & Mary and Binghamton. MAAC foes Canisius (305), Fairfield (314) and Niagara (329) all sit behind Loyola.
Among individuals, the scores of Redfearn and McCormick place them in an 11-way tie for seventh, four shots behind leader Chris Wellde of James Madison. Ross is tied for 48th and Burton is tied for 95th.
Greyhounds first-year coach Chris Baloga is optimistic of what Tuesday's final round could bring. "We played well; we just couldn't get anything out of it," he said after the round. "We have to score better. With a good day, we can get in the top five."
