Freshman Chris Derby fired a 76 on Day One of the William & Mary Invitational and the Greyhounds sit in 13th place after 18 holes in Williamsburg, Va. Richmond leads the field with a 294 while Loyola remains in striking distance with its team total of 312.
"We had some opportunities to move up in the standing as the day went on but didn't take advantage," says Loyola Head Coach Tom Beidleman. "The field is very strong and hopefully we'll have more opportunities tomorrow."
Derby is tied for 22nd overall while senior T.J. Shuart is tied for 31st after his first round score of 77. Freshman Matt Bassler registered a 78, Nick Brassill posted an 81 while Will Shriver ended the day with an 86 for the `Hounds.
Richmond is two strokes up on host William & Mary while Maryland, Navy and St. Joseph's round out the top three.
The William & Mary Invitational concludes with the final 18 holes on Monday.
