Golf Tied For Eighth After Windy Day At Snowman Getaway

GOODYEAR, Ariz. - The Loyola University Maryland golf team finished a windy opening day of the Snowman Getaway at the Palm Valley Golf Club on Monday tied for eighth place. Senior Jay Mulieri led the Greyhounds through the par 72 course with an even 144 through the first two rounds, while the team earned an aggregate score of 26-over 602.
Mulieri, currently tied for sixth place individually, led the Greyhounds through the first round, shooting a 2-under 70, while freshman Bart George shot an even 72. Senior Patrick McCormick finished at 1-over 73 and junior Jonathan Ross carded a 3-over 74. Loyola finished the opening round five shots behind the round leader British Columbia and tied with Utah State for third place with a 2-over 290.
The wind continued to pick up throughout the day and the Greyhounds wrapped up its second trip through the course with an aggregate score of 24-over 312. Mulieri shot 2-over 74 to finish the day tied for sixth place with an even 144.
McCormick shot 6-over 78 in the round to finish the day at 7-over 151, while George was one shot behind - at 152 - after completing the second round with an 8-over 80. Ross also carded an 80 in the second round to finish the two rounds at 11-over 155.
Senior Ryan McCarthy wrapped up the Greyhounds competing today, finishing the first round with a 78 and the second round at 84. He completed the day with a score of 162.
Loyola will enter the final round tied for eighth place with host Washington State, as both squads earned a team score of 602. The Greyhounds are just two shots out of fourth place though, as St. John’s shot a 24-over 600 through the two rounds and Utah Valley, UNC-Greensboro and SIU Edwardsville are all tied for fifth at 25-over 601.
Missouri-Kansas City tops the leaderboard with a 16-over 592, while Missouri State is second at 19-over 595 and British Columbia rounds out the top three at 20-over 596.
Individually, UCLA's Mario Clemens and Jay Hwang share the lead with a 5-under 139. UNC-Greensboro's Colin Chapman is third at 4-under 140, while Washington State's Michael Anderson is fourth (142) and Missouri-Kansas City's Nathan Hughes is fifth at 1-over 143.
The Greyhounds will begin competition tomorrow with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. ET.
