Edison, N.J. - Loyola freshman guard Justin Drummond (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist HS) has been named the MAAC Rookie of the Week it was announced today by the conference office. This is the first time that he has been feted by the MAAC.

In just his second college game, Drummond poured in 20 of his game-high 21 points during the second half in Saturday's game at No. 15 Georgetown. He entered the game having played just four scoreless minutes in his college debut one week earlier.

After connecting on one of two foul shots in the first half, the 6-4 freshman made a three-pointer with 15 minutes remaining for his first collegiate field goal. He would connect on six more baskets the rest of the half and three free throws to score 20 points in 15 second-half minutes. His 21 points came in 18 total minutes as he shot 50 percent from the field (7-14), 37.5 percent from three-point range (3-8) and 80.0 percent from the foul stripe (4-5). He had not dressed for the team's first eight games and did not appear in either the preseason scrimmage or exhibition prior to that.

This is the second straight week a Greyhounds men's basketball player has received a weekly honor from the conference office and the second time this season a freshman has been selected. Last week, junior forward Shane Walker was chosen as the MAAC Co-Player of the Week after recording a pair of double-doubles and freshman guard Dylon Cormier was selected as the Rookie of the Week on November 22 after scoring 20 points in a win over UMBC.

Iona's Mike Glover and Ryan Rossiter of Siena shared the MAAC's Player of the Week honors.

The Greyhounds have one more game before breaking for Christmas as they travel back to Washington, D.C., to visit Howard University on Wednesday at 7 o'clock. Loyola returns to Reitz Arena on Tuesday, December 28 when it hosts Bucknell at 7:00 p.m.
