Harvey Named MAAC Co-Player of the Week
Nov. 17, 2008
EDISON, N.J. - A day after scoring a career-high 34 points in Loyola's three-point win over Tennessee State, junior guard Brett Harvey was honored as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's Co-Player of the Week, the league office announced today.
Harvey scored 12 of the Greyhounds' final 13 points, his last two coming on a pair of free throws with four seconds left that gave Loyola a 73-70 advantage that would prove to be the final margin.
The New City, N.Y., native knocked down nine field goals, six from 3-point range, and he made 10-of-12 from the free-throw line.
With the score tied at 63, Harvey connected on his sixth 3-pointer of the game, putting the Greyhounds (1-1) up 66-63 with 3:38 remaining. The Tigers scored on their next possession, but Harvey made all four of his free throws on Loyola's next two times with the ball.
On Friday night, Harvey scored 13 points, making all nine of his free throws in Loyola's game against Mount St. Mary's.
In the two games, Harvey averaged 23.5 points and had a 4:1 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Harvey shared the weekly honor with Niagara's Tyrone Lewis. This is the first player of the week award of Harvey's career. He was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week twice as a freshman in 2006-2007.
Loyola is back in action tonight when they take on Boston College, in Chestnut Hill, Mass., in the Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off. The game tips off at 7 o'clock and can be seen live on ESPNU.
