INDIANAPOLIS - The Loyola University Maryland men's basketball team boasted the highest NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) on the latest report in the State of Maryland, The Baltimore Sunreported today.

The Greyhounds checked in with a 91-percent GSR, tops amongst the state's nine NCAA Division I programs, for the report that measures the graduation rates of classes who entered the University from 2002-2003 through 2005-2006. The national average for men's basketball is 68-percent, 71-percent for schools that do not sponsor football.

"This is a great reflection on the dedication that our players have shown toward earning their degrees while playing basketball at Loyola," said Head Coach Jimmy Patsos. "I want to thank (Loyola President) Father Linnane and Colleen Campbell, our director of academic services for student-athletes for their support and work with our players and program.

"We want our players to have a life education while they are playing here. It's not just wins and losses, we want them to experience things that they might not otherwise, like going to a museum or a Broadway show. I think that doing some of that as a program helps to educate the whole person, which is the goal of Jesuit education."

As a school, Loyola had a 96-percent GSR, good for 19th in all of NCAA Division I out of 340 schools. The University has been ranked in the top-20 of NCAA Division I every year since the report was first was issued in 2005.

Loyola opens the 2012-2013 season on Monday, November 5, with an exhibition game at 7:30 p.m. when it hosts Seton Hill University in Reitz Arena. The Greyhounds start regular-season action on Friday, November 9, with a home date against Binghamton University, also at 7:30 p.m.
