Walker Named Preseason All-Patriot League
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland senior guard Andre Walker was named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team on Wednesday by the conference's coaches.
Last year, Walker became the first Loyola player to earn All-Patriot League First Team honors since the Greyhounds joined the conference in 2013-14. He is a two-time All-League honoree after earning second-team recognition as a sophomore in 2015-16.
He was joined on the preseason team by Bucknell University's Nana Foulland, who was the player of the year, and Zach Thomas, Lehigh University's Kahron Ross and the U.S. Naval Academy's Shawn Anderson. As a team, Loyola was picked to finish sixth in the Patriot League Preseason Poll.
Walker crossed the 1,000-point threshold last season and currently sits 23rd in school history with 1,225 points. He returns as the team's leader in scoring (14.9 points per game), assists (3.9), 3-pointers made (82) and free-throw percentage (86.3).
The Westbury, New York, resident topped the Patriot League in free-throw percentage and was fifth in points per game last year. He also finished second in 3-pointers made per game (2.5) and was the leader in overall threes made.
He has averaged 10.2 or more points per game in each of his three seasons at Loyola, moving from that mark as a freshman to 14.2 in 2015-16 to 14.9 last year.
Walker also ranks among Loyola's career leaders in steals (7th, 148 total) and assists (10th, 313). His 86.3-percent mark from the free-throw line last year ranks sixth on the single-season chart at the school.
The senior has also come up big on final possessions for the Greyhounds, scoring the game-winning shot or making the defensive play with a block or steal seven times during his career.
Walker and the Greyhounds open the 2017-18 campaign on Thursday, November 2, when they host a free exhibition game at 7 p.m. against Elizabethtown College. They start the regular-season Friday, November 10, with a game at Northwestern University and have their first regular-season home contest Friday, November 17, versus Towson University.
