Fifty-four Loyola University Maryland student-athletes across 17 sports participated in graduation ceremonies on Saturday at First Mariner Arena in Baltimore.
Not included in the 54 student-athletes who graduated on Saturday were the nine men's and women's lacrosse players who were recognized in a special ceremony on Thursday due to the conflict with NCAA Quarterfinal games on Saturday.
Across the 17 sports, the senior class has experienced tremendous success on the playing field over the last four years, combining for 19 conference titles, 13 postseason appearances, 12 NCAA Championship appearances and four conference regular-season titles.
In addition to the great athletic success, 28 of the 63 student-athletes have earned conference recognition for their academic achievements.
Two student-athletes received special recognition at the ceremony, as Matthew Hassett of the Cross Country team earned the Madeleine Fremuth Memorial Award for Chemistry and Christopher Golon of the Rowing team earned the Lybrand Accounting Medal.
Golon also was the recipient of the Mary O'Meara Loyola University Maryland Athletic Club Scholar-Athlete Award which is awarded to the graduating senior who attained the highest academic average and who has earned at least three varsity letters. He concluded his Loyola career with a 3.58 GPA as a four-year member of the rowing team.
