Baltimore, Md. - Loyola Greyhounds sixth-year head coach Jimmy Patsos today announced that Julius Brooks, a 6-9 forward from Greensboro, N.C., has returned his National Letter of Intent and will join the Greyhounds' men's basketball program as a member of the Class of 2013 this fall.

Brooks averaged 15 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks for Page HS in Greensboro. His team finished 23-6 while capturing the Metro Conference regular season and conference tournament titles. Page was eliminated from the North Carolina 4A Sweet 16 by eventual state champion Mount Tabor.

"Julius is a player with a lot of upside and we're fortunate to have him joining our program," Patsos said of his newest addition. "The reputation that [Assistant Coach] Matt [Kovarik] has in his hometown of Greensboro was a real key to Julius deciding on Loyola. Matt did a great job and hung in there right to the end."

A three-time all-Metro performer, Brooks wrapped his senior year with first team all-district honors, being honored as a McDonald's All-America nominee and has been chosen to play in the prestigious North Carolina East-West All-Star Game this July. During his final campaign, he was named the most valuable player of the MLK Scholastic Classic.

Brooks recorded two monster games during the season, scoring 27 points with 20 rebounds in a February win over Northwest Guilford HS and posting 19 points and 15 rebounds in a playoff win over North Forsyth HS to advance to the state's Sweet 16.

The newest signee joins Robert Olson as members of the incoming freshmen class. Olson, a 6-4 guard from Georgetown Prep, signed with the Greyhounds during the early signing period in November.

Loyola and its newest additions will open the 2009-2010 season on Friday, November 13 when the Greyhounds host Vermont at Reitz Arena.
